The Japanese Garden is a public garden where children and families to enjoy wonderful time and enjoy the civilizations of the east in Cairo, as it was built by the architect Zulfiqar pasha, and it was called in the past the Asian life Kiosk and then it was called the Japanese Garden. In 1990, the Cairo governorate included the garden in the specialized gardens project. And it contains many of some statues that symbolize different historical eras, such as the statue of the lotus flower which bears the statue of Zulfiqarpasha, and around it are statues of elephants of the East. There is also a statue of the face of life and a statue of Buddha.
Japanese Garden was established in the Helwan area (south of Cairo) in 1917, also it was probably used as a tea garden with golden sunshine. The Japanese Garden is dotted with many walking slopes that are dotted with beautiful trees on both sides. The most prominent features of the Japanese Garden in Cairo are containing a series of (fish) ponds, canals, hills and a variety of trees, this Japanese-themed park feature over 30 Buddha statues, as well as several larger individual statues including the larger Buddha statues and a 10-foot Buddha head. The main fountain of the garden contains Buddha seated on a lotus flower surrounded by three elephants. The garden also includes a tall pagoda and a large gazebo. Among the statues in the garden, the lotus flower statue that bears the statue of Zulfiqar Pasha, the garden designer, and around it is statues of the eastern elephants that guard the place. You can do activities while visiting the Japanese Garden in Cairo like walking, riding a small boat and playing ball. You can take many pictures with the Buddha statues which appear in the green garden.
You can enter the Japanese Garden with a ticket of 10 pounds for adults and opening everyday from nine in the morning until ten in the evening. Japanese garden is considered Special Park because there are three of the essential elements used to create a Japanese garden are stone, which form the structure of the landscape; water, representing life-giving force; and plants, which provide the color and changes throughout the seasons.
The park has two sides you can discover, the right side from the entrance which is most interesting side is situated on a hill whereas the left side is completely flat. As soon as you enter and look to your right, you will see ahuge Buddha face carved out of a rock. If you walk up from here, you reach aplateau where a fountain with three little elephants is situated. The fountain the place where you can rest on some of the benches on Japanese cottage, keep walking straight up the hill until you come across what used tobe a lake surrounded by at least 30 Buddha statues. A little research revealedthat this used to be a very nice lake with vegetation all around. However, thedried up spot today makes the place look rather creepy. The abandoned palace-turned-hospitalacross the park, which is haunted according to urban legend, emphasises thiswhole image. Above the lake with the Buddha statues is another Japanese cottagefunctioning as a panorama.
The collection of rowing boats stacked next to the lake is evidence that the park may once have been in better shape than it is now.
Next to the small bamboo forest is the Big Smiling Buddha statue. At the end of the garden there is another Japanese hut with benches. To the right of that is a children's playground with swings and a carousel. Apart from bamboo, there are not many typical Japanese flowers or trees to be found.
