Al Anfoshi Cemetery

The archaeological Cemetery of Al Anfoshi is one of the most important Greek monuments in the city ofAlexandria. These ancient tombs date back to the third century BC (around 250 BC. AD) to the late Ptolemaic era and the early Roman era.

Al Anfoshi cemetery is located in Gumrok district, discovered in 1901. You will watch how the Ptolemaic tombs were used in the Roman period as well as you will enjoy pharaonic scenes painted on the walls of the tombs.

Al Anfoushi cemetery includes five funerary buildings (graves), two of which are considered the most important cemeteries in Alexandria with its unique architectural design. There are a lot of Sphinx statues on the left and right sides of the burial chamber, because there was still a belief that the Sphinx guard the graves.
